The Next Baby will Arrive This Summer
For three months now, we have had a secret and we are finally ready to share the news. I am pregnant! This blog is about to make a transformation from Owen’s pregnancy, baby, toddler and now preschooler blog, to Owen and his new sibling’s blog. A name change will be in order, since “A Boy and His Blog” will not fit any longer. Any suggestions would be welcome.
It was not easy finishing up my first semester at college with pregnancy sickness (this is the new term for ‘morning’ sickness, since only a lucky few only experience nausea in the morning while pregnant – most of us experience it all day long). But I got through it, and my pregnancy sickness was much easier to deal with this time around. I’m not sure if my body just remembered and was like “oh, yeah, we know how to deal with this”, or if it was because I knew what to do this time – last time it took me awhile to realize that not eating made it worse, and that eating normal sized or large meals made it worse, and that the key was eating several small meals a day and never letting my blood sugar drop. I also was already taking B vitamins this time, which last time finally saved me once my midwife suggested them. It lasted longer this time though. I am already into the second trimester and still just a tiny bit nauseous with some food aversions hanging on as well. Last time it was pretty much gone during the first trimester. Also, this time it manifests itself when I prepare, or think about preparing food. Eating food is really not so bad. Making food, or flipping through a recipe book makes me feel that vomiting might be a good idea. So far though, there has been no vomiting, just as there was not last time, so I guess I am lucky in that way.
As with Owen, it only took one month of trying to conceive to become pregnant. Though this time there was a few months before I started college that we had tried and nothing had happened. I eventually decided I wanted to complete an entire year of college before having another baby, so we put off trying for a bit. When we started again, it just happened immediately, and it was somewhat of a surprise because I actually didn’t think we had started in time for the timing to be right that month. As soon as my period was only a day late, I knew I was pregnant. The symptoms were quite obvious. After I was one week late, we bought a pregnancy test. In the morning, I tested and got an instant positive. James was still home so I came out and showed him. He was very happy, of course. We decided not to tell Owen, or anyone else until I was in my second trimester. We are a bit traditional in that regard and I prefer to wait to tell people when the risk of miscarriage is greatly reduced in the second trimester. And though my life is usually an open book, I am actually very private when it comes to early pregnancy and I really have no desire to tell anyone until I have really wrapped my mind around it myself.
I am now months along, and the baby should arrive at the end of July. I have much more to share, but this is getting long enough already, so stay tuned in the next few days for more updates!
