PostHeaderIcon What we did while Mama was away…

Posted by Daddy

Tuesday:

As soon as we left the airport, Owen wanted to eat at Jimmy John’s.  That’s his favorite place to eat.  After eating there, we stopped at the library, and then went home.  It was then that it finally hit Owen that his Mama would be away for a few days.  He decided to cry on the couch from 3:00 – 8:30.  He refused to do anything, play with anything, or eat anything.  He finally fell asleep from exhaustion.

Wednesday:

I could tell right away this was going to be a better day, because Owen woke up with a smile and immediately wanted to watch robot videos on YouTube.  After breakfast, Owen accompanied me on an appointment, but then we went right from there to the Raptor Center.  Since it was midweek (and still morning), there was hardly anyone else there and we received a private tour of all the birds.  Owen liked it.  We bought a meal for one of the hawks, and got to write our names on a mouse-shaped piece of paper and stick it on the wall by the hawk.

After that, Owen wanted to go straight to the bowling alley.  So we did.  We bowled one game, and then Owen decided that was enough.  We had a late lunch at Chipotle, then stopped at the park on the way home, and Owen fell asleep from exhaustion at 8:00.

Thursday:

Owen went to preschool in the morning.  When I picked him up at noon, he wanted to go straight to the Children’s Museum, but I talked him into going home to eat first.
We’d been to the Children’s Museum twice before, but both times it was on their free days, so it was packed.  This time was way better: no crowds, and we were able to just walk up to anything and try it out.  Owen had been excited for days about playing with the boats (which were always in use by other kids on previous visits), so he got to play with those for about a half hour.  When he ran ahead of me into another room, he ran back laughing at his good fortune: he had stumbled upon a room dedicated to all things Clifford.  Owen loves Clifford and we spent most of an hour in that room while Owen “delivered” the fake mail to all the stops in Clifford’s “neighborhood”.

After dinner, Owen and I watched Survivor.  When it was over, Owen asked what we were going to do next.  I said: “Well, I’m gonna watch the Office, but you can go play if you want.”  Owen decided to stay by me, and he fell asleep by the next commercial.

Friday:

Our first and only lazy morning!  Around noon, Owen said he wanted to eat at IKEA, so I took him there.  Then I suggested we go to the Como Zoo.  The highlights of the zoo (for Owen) were seeing the baby giraffe drink from its mama, finding his favorite mints at the store, playing in the children’s play area (more boats!) and running down hills shouting “gravity is pulling me down”.

Later, we walked around the conservatory.  Then we went home and waited for Mama to call us from the airport.  When she did, we went to pick her up.  Owen said he wanted to eat dinner at Mickey’s, so we did.
